Snoring is a condition that occurs when breathing during sleep causes the tissues of the throat to vibrate and make noise. The noise of snoring is often guttural, loud and unpleasant. Snoring is a common condition in adults and can occur occasionally or be chronic. Although snoring is not considered a serious medical condition, it can lead to some undesirable side effects.
- Short term effect of this condition can contribute to fatigue and morning tiredness. Then it can lead to lowering of safety especially for the driver or certain activity.
- Sleep apnea is a condition where breathing patterns become irregular, often with long pauses taken between breaths. Sleep apnea caused by snoring is known as obstructive sleep apnea, which occurs when the muscles of the throat relax and the air way closes while breathing in. This can cause sudden waking as the brain realizes it is not being supplied adequate oxygen.
- In long term other dangerous diseases may appear such as hypertension, stroke, and heart disease. Statistically, when large numbers of snorers are examined there would appear to be an increased risk of high blood pressure and the complications of this.
Tips for reducing snoring:
- Lose weight if you are overweight.
- Cut down or eliminate alcohol.
- Quit smoking. If you smoke, your chances of snoring are high. Smoking causes airways to be blocked by irritating the membranes in the nose and throat.
- Clear nasal passages. Having a stuffy nose makes inhalation difficult and creates a vacuum in your throat, which in turn leads to snoring. You can do it naturally with a Neti pot or try nasal decongestants or nasal strips to help you breathe more easily while sleeping.
- Try raising your head by putting pillows under it.
- Blow your nose before going to bed.
- Sleep posture. Sleeping flat on your back causes the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway.
- Take Snore Zip – homeopathic oral spray designed to help alleviate the signs and symptoms that might be leading to you to snore
